Lake District Easter Adventure

Thursday 14th April

It's 4:30 am and the alarm has just gone off ready for our adventure to the lake district.  Car all packed and ready to leave at 5am we were on our way for what would be our 4 hour journey filled with "are we on holiday yet" and nursery rhymes.

We arrived at 9:15 with a brief breakfast stop and after a quick shower to freshen up we were ready to begin exploring.

We took a trip down to the lake front and watched the birds and world go by.  Little man wanted an ice cream but finding a dairy free ice cream was proving difficult.  I likened them to buses, when you need one they are nowhere to be found and when you don't want one they are everywhere!

After a low key morning we ventured to the World of Beatrix Potter for afternoon tea before heading for a walk around the attraction.  The afternoon tea was nice and even though the little man loved the experience the cost for it was a little expensive for an adult for what was a 30 min walk around.  Seeing his face light up when he ran into the gift shop grabbing everything off the shelf was an experience of its own, fortunately for us granny paid.

With another ice cream we sat by the lake playing with stones watching the boats come and go from the jettys before calling it a day.

Good Friday

After what was a pretty disruptive night which was not ideal after the previous days 4:30 start we had some pancakes to fuel us for the day.  We ventured down to the lake ready to board the boat for our tour of lake Windermere and the little man's first boat ride.  The boat trip was really good and reasonably priced for 75 minutes on the lake.

That afternoon we took a trip to Tarn How another in land lake for a 2 mile walk with some beautiful scenery although not particularly kind on foot for our travelling party.  After what felt like a lifetime to get around I had completed 10000 steps for the first time since my ankle operation 2 months ago.

Following a really nice but tiring day we got some chips from the local chippie ready to call it a day, however a second wind came once the little man had gone to bed and we went out for a well deserved pint by the lake on a roof top terrace.... life was bliss.

Easter Saturday

The little man had a really good sleep last night which which meant so did mummy and daddy.  After hot cross buns for breakfast we took a car ride over to Aira Force waterfall for a little walk which turned out to be a bit more challenging than expected.  Having spent 3 hours at the waterfall and picnic area we then crossed the road down to the little pebbled beach to skim and throw stones into the water, the view was breathtaking and oozed tranquillity.

No roof top terrace drinks tonight 😴😴😴

Easter Sunday

Easter Sunday, a day filled with joy and chocolate.  After hot cross buns for breakfast, we took a short drive to see the steam train and a play park.  The sun was shining and there was a real sense of happiness amongst everyone we saw.  After the train we ventured down to the local market which was a little underwhelming and felt more like a car boot.  We did pick up some books for the little man which he loved.  At the market we got the call to tell us that the egg hunt was ready back at the holiday home.  Primed with our baskets we raced around the home jostling for position to find eggs it resembled something that looked like a Next sale.

Egg hunt done it was time to settle down for an Easter roast before more chocolate and bed.

Easter Monday

Our last day in the lake district, our holiday has come to an end.  On the way home we stopped off in Kendal to take the little man to a farm park.  The farm park was OK, it had a play area, some animals, soft play and a tractor ride. The little man seemed to enjoy it but I think he was ready to go home.

A 4 hour car journey home and our holiday was over.
